Sit a Spell: The Cat, The Cowboy & The Newshawk

What happens when a Catwoman, a cowboy themed President and a hardened Newshawk walk into a bar? Well the bartender probably just goes ahead and takes their drink orders. But also we get a little window into how "free" the speech actually is in this country.

Ladybird Johnson invited Eartha Kitt to a luncheon in 1968 and sparks flew. Kitt got cancelled. This story needs to be told and told again because things like this are still happening. By the way, pause what you're doing right now, go find Kathy Griffin on IG and giver her a virtual hug. She deserves it.

December by Collective Soul is what kicks off todays chat fest. Even if you don't think you recognize the name of the song, you know the song itself. Give it a spin.

The guys go back, way back. Lots of reflection on childhood and its inherent difficulties. Parents just don't understand. Amirite?

All jokes aside, it's a great convo. We get raw. Interesting stuff. Not many guys out there laying it all out in the open like this these days. Maybe this shouldn't be such an outlier?

Sit a Spell Episode 17 A Discourse on Male Intimacy

Adam Roche from The Secret History of Hollywood podcast joins me to add Cary Grant and Randolph Scott as a case study for the positivity of males bonding in a platonically intimate way. Yes we acknowledge the thirst for their relationship to have been carnal, but... I don't really think it was. To me this has even greater value than fantasizing about them hooking up.

My pal from across the pond sat down and spoke with me at length about male intimacy, or more so the lack of it in today's culture. Not sexuality, just good old male bonding. Emotional vulnerability, leaning on and celebrating triumphs with a good friend of the same gender. I don't think macho posturing, the "alpha male" prototype or aggressive stoicism is doing guys any favors in the long run.

You really need to check out Adams epic telling of Cary Grants life, loves, career, heartbreak and triumphs. It's truly an extraordinary tale, superbly told by a Master of the craft.
